In 1966 David Nuuhiwa won the Surfer Magazine readers poll and was acknowledged as the best nose rider in the world. Bing Surfboards made his signature board which became the hottest selling board that year. David easily transitioned to short boards with his smooth and fluid style and continued to win competitions. He participated in the US Surfing Championships in 1968 and 1971 and was the poster child of the new look sponsored surfer; making endorsement deals upwards of $25,000 in 1967. Nuuhiwa was the first celebrity surfer, looking like a rock star, showing up in a Porsche or Rolls with a traveling fan club, and starring in surf movies like “Five Summer Stories” and “Rainbow Bridge” with the legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix.
This vintage David Nu’uhiwa 1970s pin tail single fin defines his style and that era! The bottom has a vibrant dark green tint which wraps the rails to a black pin-stripe outline. The colorful shooting star graphic and top logo look great.
Overall dimensions are approximately 7’ x 19” x 3”.
There are some horizontal stress cracks on the belly and a minor nose repair which blends well with the original coloring. There are standard pressures on the deck which are evenly distributed and do not detract from the board’s appearance. All minor dings have been professionally restored and blended, and this vintage Nuuhiwa pintail is water tight.
