We’re excited to introduce this never waxed, like new condition, beautiful mid-length “Surfboards by Velzy” serial number #710108.
Dale Velzy was a flashy, all-out showman that would do anything to get you on a surfboard. He was a prodigious “hot-dogger” and made boards that had more in common with drag racing than hydrodynamics. This single fin gem captures his renegade approach to shaping and surfing - it has a chameleon-like swirl coloring on the bottom and subtle tint on top, both of which appear to change brightness in different lighting conditions! It features crisp white pinstriping, a single wooden stringer, Velzy’s iconic red circle logo, and a high-gloss polished finish.
The condition is like-new and amazing. This surfboard has never been ridden or waxed.
Dimensions are approximately 7’10” x 21 ¾” x 3”
Dale Velzy began surfing in California as a boy, and he and his father shaped boards with his grandfather's woodworking tools. He quit school in the seventh grade, and his parents tried sending him to military school but he ran away from home. When he was 16 he enlisted in the Merchant Marine Corp, and his tour through the Hawaiian Islands exposed him to the surf culture of the region. He then took what he learned with him and applied it to his own techniques. He had "Velzyland," a surf break in Hawaii on Oahu's North Shore, named after him in the 50s and it’s still called that today.
